A man tries to move from a lying to a standing position. He slowly, melancholically, depicts the evolution of human-individual, of human-society or of the human-species.
The man, a tightrope walker ?
A lone man, lying down in the space of an electric green rectangle. Undefined space and time. A growing heart, a body who searches. To lift the mechanics, to raise, move on sound bursts. By the head, the pelvis or the feet. Like a man suspended to the ground and who dreams of walking in the air. From deadlocks to resolutions, he tries, fails, falls, risks again, pushing ever further the species limits. Sometimes an inverted jelly fish with fragile tentacles, sometimes a crocodile, sliding silently, the strange creature erects itself on its new feet, as a wingless Icarus, a kind of cyborg discovering its twin…
Between odyssey, philosophical tale and science fiction, Erection follows the line of humain evolution. In a minimalist layout, accompanied by live sound and video effects, Pierre Rigal dances as animal-man, individual-man and social-man, three versions of the same attempt to erect. How do things stand for life, evolution ? So many questions agitate the adventure of this balancing creature which we call man, sad clown of all time. It’s that simple.
